Community Partnerships

At Dad's Garage, it's important to us to be stewards of our community. We’re working hard to use our facilities, artists, and connections to benefit our community. Below you can see our current and past collaborations with fellow nonprofits.

Past Collaborations:

Georgia Gear

Dad’s Garage partnered with Georgia Gear 2023-2024 to tackle some of the age-old challenges of providing superior healthcare for older patients. We collaborated to combine improvisation techniques and research from Emory University and Georgia State University to create new approaches to providing the best possible care for people living with dementia.

Georgia State University

Dad’s Garage partnered with Georgia State University’s Gerontology Institute in 2024 to develop and test novel education programs designed to improve care experiences for persons living with dementia and their care partners. Focused on family and friends, “Improving Care though Improv: Promoting Mastery in the Moment” was a project led by Dr. Candace L. Kemp in collaboration with Improving Care Through Improv Program Director and Dad’s Garage Ensemble Member, Amanda Lee Williams. The work was funded through the Emory Roybal Center for Dementia Caregiving Mastery, which is supported by the National Institute on Aging. Our collaboration focused on training the health and long-term care workforce is supported by the Georgia Gear partnership.

CDC Foundation

Dad’s Garage received a grant from CDCF to create an improv show and sketch video to increase vaccine confidence in our community. We performed all over the state of Georgia and offered vaccines at each event.

Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District

On October 20th, 2022, Dad’s Garage is partnering with Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District to highlight Imagine a Day Without Water, a national day of action bringing together communities and policymakers to advance greater and more equitable water investment.

American Institute for Stuttering

In 2022, Dad’s Garage offered a successful online improv class with the American Institute for Stuttering. In 2023, we hosted a one-day in-person workshop called “Go With the Flow” designed specifically for people who stutter. The workshop was created and taught by Amanda Lee Williams of Dad’s Garage and Carl Herder of AIS.

Camp Southern Ground

We partnered with Camp Southern Ground to bring our children’s improv show, Wowie Zowie, to their campers. Camp Southern ground is “an inclusive camp, serving ages 7-17, from all socioeconomic backgrounds, races and religions, with programs that challenge, educate and inspire.” Check them out at campsouthernground.org
